June 2o15 highlights

This one will be long! Many end of school year activities and a weekend vacation with just Ezra.

Was able to go on another field trip to the same place with Ezra this time

Mari had a field day at school

The boys’ school had a color run to celebrate the end of Mileage Club, it was a mile loop and I think Ezra did it at least 4 times (then had a 2 hour baseball game that night-the boy NEVER tires!)

End of soccer season for Tobin, we had a party at the park after the last game

Why ice cream, of course, for my birthday

On the last day of school (half day), a mom (I had never met) invited Ezra to the art institute downtown. We decided that we would all go, and we’re friends now–I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t have let her son go with me either;)  I had wanted to take the kids for some time but just never made it a priority, we all really enjoyed it!

The very next day, we took Tobin to Pathfinder weekend at Camp, last year, Kelly & I stayed at Aunt Faye & Uncle Al’s condo with just Marian since the boys were both at Camp.  This time, we arranged for Marian to stay with my sister for the weekend to play with cousin Alyssa so we could just hang with Ezra.  I think we’ll try to make something work for Tobin this coming summer.

We stopped at one of our favorite state parks and they just happened to be giving archery lessons-SWEET!

I must apologize, there are ALOT of pictures of Ezra to follow, there were just too many good “shooting” locations, and while I LOVE all these, I was just a little bummed that I don’t have similar ones to display of the missing children;)

Mmmm, cherry pie

Watching the sunset

This awesome yellow brick wall was outside the brewery we ate dinner at, there it was staring at me during dinner, the golden light beautiful outside, I just couldn’t take it anymore and had to drag Ez out there!

And, who can resist beach images!

LOVE his freckles

We even biked about 10 miles

It was really a sweet time with just the 3 of us:)

Saturday night we made a fire and had s’mores with Kathie, Jack & Adeline

And, this blown out image is what happens when you forget to change the settings from shooting in near darkness the night before:(  Tobin & Kash had a super fun time140615_PathfinderWeekend_310

And, more baseball (I confess even I was tiring of by the end of June)

Check out this sequence of Ezra . . . fielding the ball

touching 3rd only for him & the runner to realize it wasn’t a force

Ezra trying to run him down

Almost got him

Got him

It’s a good thing Ezra was faster than him because “pickle” is not something the coaches worked on, everyone was just watching and nobody was on 2nd or 3rd base to catch him.

And, lastly, a Junior Explorer hike.  The leader had a presentation that had something for nearly each letter of the alphabet — our kids came up with the letters she was missing;)

This is the boys practicing their American Ninja Warrior Skills.

A good month!  Next up . . . Camp!

May 2o15 highlights

May was a BUSY month!

Kelly kept me well nourished (just had to take a picture of this amazing omelette he made)

Our tulips came up beautifully

I even used them as backdrops for a couple of shoots:)

Mothers day

We went to the same chinese buffet we do every year, they take such good care of us.  I think Uncle Al is doing a magic trick.

Ezra played baseball with Kelly assistant coaching, he was on a great team, they went undefeated for the season and then lost in the playoff game:(, but Ezra learned a lot, had some great plays, even got to get into the pitching rotation.

140520_EzraBaseball_089 140520_EzraBaseball_090140520_EzraBaseball_092 140529_EzraBaseball_025 140529_EzraBaseball_024 140529_EzraBaseball_004

Ezra loved it, and since I love baseball, I loved it too.  I was actually expecting there to be walks and kids hit by pitches, hits because of errors, etc . . . but to my surprise and delight, there was actual baseball play.  Fly balls were caught, batters struck out, and many were thrown out at first!  Ezra even tagged a couple out trying to steal 2nd:)  The thing I didn’t figure on was the length of the game . . . with soccer, it’s 2 – 25 minutes halves and you’re done.  The baseball games were 1 1/2 to 2 hours!  Mari & Tobin are not as excited about baseball as the rest of the family;)

140517_EzraBaseball_018 140517_EzraBaseball_015

Ezra worked with Tobin on batting, he improved tremendously — and, in case you’re wondering, he is wearing part of his Luigi costume  140518_BaseballSwing_003140518_BaseballSwing_004140518_BaseballSwing_005

Tobin played soccer again, it was a little weird not going to soccer games for Ezra too

And, Mari & I did Girls on the Run, I didn’t run, still nursing a hip problem, but was an assistant coach. After the first session, I quickly remembered that 5th & 6th grade is not my favorite age to work with, I love babies, up to about age 11 and then I want them to be in high school, ugghh, what was I thinking!  So, I prayed, I prayed that God would show me these dramatic, whiny, trying-to-grow-up too fast, a bit self centered pre-teens through His eyes.  Oh, did He come through!  At the next session, they acted exactly the same, but I liked them, wanted to be there for them, wanted to show them Christ’s love in whatever way I could:)  Turns out it also made me realize what a peach our daughter is!  Mari was able to complete the big 5k (running & walking) with no problem.

She also had a vocal concert in May

Grandma & Mari got matching pajamas & mocassins

So proud of Ezra, for his historical figure for their wax museum, he chose Ezra which led to his friend Elijah choosing Elijah, which led to some very interesting Bible conversations!

We went on some field trips

The pool club opened!

And, my Mom & sisters went on our annual “Mom” weekend over Memorial weekend. We enjoyed a couple of lovely sunsets.

Even got them on a semi-real hike this year

LOVE my Mom & sisters!

And, that wraps up our May.

April 2o15 highlights

In April we told the kids we got a new pet, this guy visited on several nights.

Marian had a birthday party for a friend who loves acting & other performing things, so we made her some really cool photo booth props

Climbing wall

And, a vertical spinning thing–this was crazy, Tobin got practically horizontal with Ezra spinning it!

And, more ice cream

Not sure what happened but Ezra somehow got ice cream all over his face (on his own) which is usually Tobin’s job, anyway, I loved his smile here

Lambs were just born in the barn, these were days old–the cutest things you’ve ever seen!  There was a mama about to give birth and the kids wanted to wait–if I’d have thought she would be delivering soon, we would have stayed but she was walking around eating–still getting her body ready we thought

Marian made Tobin a ninja costume using balloons

And, he needed to dress like a falcon for “2nd grade zoo” day at school.  Some parents get really elaborate with their kids costumes, I’m not one of those parents and this frugal girl is not about to pay for anything.  So, the day before (we did have weeks and I even tried to get him to wear Mari’s old dolphin costume but he had written his report about falcons so I loaned out the dolphin costume to a girl in his class).  Back to the story, the day before, we scrambled trying to figure this out with materials on hand.  I came up with just wearing brown, Tobin remembered that we had yellow soccer socks which I think pulls the whole thing together.  When Sandy made the dolphin costume, she used a hat for the beak, so we taped poster board to a hat and colored eyes on it.  And, then duck taped poster board wings to him (he colored feathers on it).  Not bad for a last minute effort not spending any money;)140430_NoSchoolDay_017

March 2o14 highlights

The boys love after school science, this month they made volcanos

We had lunch with some family & friends to celebrate

Cool woodpecker

It was not a great sugaring season this year, and we got a late start so we didn’t get a lot but we’ll try again next year.

And, Mari had a birthday too, we had a “garden” party

She was very excited to get a whole stack of Trixie Belden books

140329_MariBirthday_062 140329_MariBirthday_053 140329_MariBirthday_046 140329_MariBirthday_033 adj

We even made garden stones

140329_MariBirthday_027 140329_MariBirthday_022

I was pretty proud of the cake!

And, that wraps up March 2014.

February 2o14 highlights

We made super cute valentines for the boys, with pencils attached and for the first time, Marian didn’t make any-hmm, not sure if I was relieved or sad about this?

Valentines Day after school snack — sometimes I’m really good;)

Ezra turned 9, I posted the Olympic party right after his party, see Ezra Olympic Party Post

Love these pictures of him, and adore those freckles & very subtle dimples140213_EzraBirthday_026

We went trampoline jumping, well, they did, not me.

I think this was a planned no school day, so we had extra kids over.  Boys being boys . . .140217_6Kids_026

And, I made them do some reading (just for the quietness!)140217_6Kids_034

Mari did a great job entertaining Natalie

And, Trish & Troy came out for a visit (Trish loves to read and Tobin loves to snuggle & be read to!)

No idea what is happening here, some sort of ball chasing I imagine
