I know, it was 2 weeks ago but here are the kids with their valentines!
Well, this was 2 weeks ago that we had Ezra’s birthday party-we went out to eat after church and then over to Pam & Rob’s house for cake & ice cream and games. Evan’s birthday is 3 days after Ezra’s so we had a joint celebration.
This is him watching his candles being blown out by Tobin. Yes, Tobin was sitting at his right and totally blew them all out before Ez had a chance! Don’t worry, we lit them again and he was able to do it.
One big highlight was being able to “skype” with Jess & Shelby, they sang Happy Birthday to him and watched him open a present, Evan too!
(The other big highlight was Pam’s “green dragon” ice cream cake)
Evan got a ukulele for his birthday (he already knew a bunch of chords and could play it before we left their house-another very musical kid from this family!)

We played a bunch of Wii, Ez couldn’t wait to “box” with Evan (because he beats all of us easily) but Evan knocked him out quickly and then Uncle Rob did too
Ezra then lost to Kelly, Grandpa & Mari in golf. Mari beat Grandpa by 1 stroke after paring the last hole that Grandpa took a 15 on!
So, Ezra was feeling a bit blue about this when we played bowling-the results:
That’s Ez at 159. Kelly told him he needed a strike in the last frame to beat me-he walks right up and throws a strike! He was VERY excited and it was a good way to end the party.
We had a nice family day on Ezra’s birthday, starting with some pancakes-Ezra’s favorite breakfast
followed by some Wii with Mari-probably his favorite activity
then we went to swim lessons-not one of his favorites but he’s doing great!
and, I finally figured out how to get him to lay flat in the water, he tries to swim standing up, sort of looks like a sea horse:) I told him to get his feet to splash-lightbulb moment for him and now I can’t wait to see what he does next week
I can’t believe he’s 5 and at the same time it seems like he’s been acting 5 for awhile. A few tidbits about him, he uses lots of big words like similar instead of same and the other day he said “precisely”, he is very helpful and obedient (most of the time), he is hugely sensitive and his feelings get hurt easily and when he cries, it’s still buckets! I still believe someday he’ll have “mother” tattooed on his arm (I hope his wife doesn’t mind) and he loves to snuggle. He knows all his letter sounds and is frequently trying to sound out words. He loves math and sees numbers everywhere now, and can tell you 2 & 3 digit numbers. He also loves all ball sports and can play endless games of catch. He’s very flexible during playtime, he’ll play Pretty, Pretty Princess & doll house with girls and then run around jumping & beating on each other when boys are over and he still loves his blankie. He has quite a few Bible verses memorized and knows a lot of Bible stories-thank you to Brenda (Sunday School teacher), MOPs, BSF & AWANA. When he was really little we used to say “everybody loves ezra” and it’s still true:)
A couple shots of Mari after she taught herself a song on the piano-she was VERY excited. It’s a simple little book that she got for her birthday last year that she found the other day.
