Overnight Guests

Posted 1 year, 8 months ago at 8:07 am.

With the high winds, our electricity went out Monday for only 5 minutes-oh we were sooo grateful.  A minute later, my friend Mary called and they weren’t so lucky.  Mary & I had MOP’s plans for dinner, so Mark & the kids hung out with Kelly & kids and then they all spent the night.  Mary & I came back from dinner to find the guys in a heated match of Blokus, Mark pulled it out in the end

The next morning, I tried to get a picture of all 6 kids-pretty much impossible.

this is Ezra flipped upside down on our swinging rope in the basement

Yes, Kelly tied a thick, heavy rope to the basement ceiling and we have rules-must be an adult present to swing, the mat must be clear of toys, and no one can be on the mat.  It’s quite a crowd pleaser!

It's a zoo around here!

Posted 1 year, 8 months ago at 7:38 pm.

So, we decided to get out of the house and go to the actual zoo!  We didn’t bring a stroller or wagon and there was a lot of whining-I think they’re getting soft but we covered a lot of the zoo.  Cool parts–the polar bear in the tunnel and seeing the newer meer cat exhibit, which I couldn’t get a good picture of because they are too fast!

Christmas Morning

Posted 1 year, 8 months ago at 8:44 pm.

We had a fun Christmas morning. As part of our “make Jesus the focus” on Christmas, we try to not make the presents the center of everything.  I guess we’ve been sort of successful because they didn’t even ask to open them first thing.  In fact, Marian & Ezra both walked right by the tree without even noticing, Tobin walked in, immediately saw them and said “presents” and went and sat in front of them.  We did stockings first, then Kelly made pancakes, then we read the story of Jesus’ birth in the Bible & from Ezra’s story book, then we opened presents.  For the past 2 years, we’ve done a “want, need, surprise” thing (ie something you want, something you need and a surprise).  It cuts down on the “I wants” and since we did it last year, Marian explained it all to Ezra the whole month of December.

The other kids just dumped their chocolates out but Ezra had to line his up

Marian very excited about getting Pixos (her want)

Crenulated

Posted 1 year, 8 months ago at 9:31 pm.

Having battlements; looking like the top row of a medieval castle. The act of crenelating; adding a top row that looks like the top of a medieval castle, for knights to stand between. Thanks to Kelly’s sister Kim for furthering our vocabulary! I will never be challenging her to a game of Scrabble:)

I’ll have some pictures of Christmas tomorrow, I’ve got my 200 pictures narrowed down to 57, so I still have a bit of work to do!
